*_The Stranger_*
The Stranger *within my gate,*
He may be true or kind,
But he does not talk my talk--
I cannot feel his mind.
I see the face and the eyes and the mouth,
But not the soul behind.
The Stranger *within my gates,*
He may be evil or good,
But I cannot tell what powers control--
What reasons sway his mood;
Nor when the Gods of his far-off land
Shall repossess his blood.

*grow*
verb :
sprout, shoot up, spring up, develop, bud, burst forth, *_germinate_* , bloom.
************
*Germination* is the process by which an organism grows from a seed or similar structure. The most common example of germination is the sprouting of a seedling from a seed
Thus, in a general sense, germination can be thought of as anything expanding into greater being from a small existence or germ.
Most seeds do not need sunlight to germinate but some seeds such as sunflower seeds, mustard seeds and blosnian seeds need sunlight to successfully germinate.

[11/24, 21:13] Ravi Subramanian: Pest is vermin. Headless vermin ermin. G ermin ate.
[11/24, 21:17] Dhayanandan: Why shouldn't be it germ? sans head..
[11/24, 21:20] M K Raghavan: Got it! Thank you Ravi!
l have made it , _the way_ _how l have solved_ the riddle!
[11/24, 21:20] Ravi Subramanian: Pests/vermin normally refer to larger creatures like rat, mice etc. Not bacteria and viruses which are germs.
[11/24, 21:21] Dhayanandan: But, one of the synonyms for pest is germ..i remember to have seen.
[11/24, 21:25] Ravi Subramanian: You are correct. I am going by the convention I have seen.
[11/24, 21:25] M K Raghavan: _Synonyms for pest_
noun person or thing that presents problem
blight
bug
contagion
epidemic
infection
plague
scourge
*virus*
[11/24, 21:28] M K Raghavan: The author had vermin in mind! And accordingly the riddle was constructed by him.
The solver debugged the riddle with pest as germ (virus)!
The word INSIDE is used to indicate something to be placed inside another word. Once INSIDE is used for that purpose what we are left with here is ERM and GATE from which one cannot obtain GERMINATE. A regular follower here, SP Suresh would call this violating the norms of Ximenes, a word doing double duty. Occasionally non-Ximenes clues can be tolerated if it leads to an elegant formation. But that is not possible here as the container indicator is INSIDE and what is to go inside(!) is IN not inside.
Thank you Mr.Vanchi.
I am not conversant with English crosswords. I started solving only after you introduction of Krypton!
