What comes once in a year and twice in a week?
"Your response has been recorded.
Submit another response"
It does not say "submit another response if this response is not right", or "give a corrected response". Therefore, one can submit as many responses as one feels appropriate. When I had a doubt whether my response was recorded, I submitted the same response again. In the list in the evening, my name appeared twice!
With due respects to you, the cryptographer par excellence, I have decided to withdraw from any future participation. Thanks for allowing me and tolerating me so long. I enjoyed it. I reiterate that I have great respect for your creativity and contribution in the field of Tamil cryptography unknown to many.

However, let us imagine a situation where a solver ,who is unsure about his answers, posting multiple answers , and leaving the author to choose the correct one.
If such members are more in number, naturally the excel spreadsheet will be receiving a deluge of multiple answers.
For instance yesterday though my first choice was அசை, I didn't submit it as the link with யாப்பு didn't strike me at that particular moment. And l posted my other choice பதி as answer. When the answer was published l still had a sense of satisfaction though my name was not there in the list. We may have the sense of "Missed the bus " feeling that we can't help it!
Similar situation happened to me earlier also when l posted a second answer and found my first choice was correct.
Its all in the game , and let us desist from opening the pandora's box! Ofcourse its my personal view and l shall stand to abide by the authors decision .
I tried to post my views on the blog, but closed the page before submission. Since I see more posts in WhatsApp I will do the same.
1. The "Submit another response" maybe a default message in Blogger and not Dr. Vanchi's instruction.
2. Since the rule is uniformly applied to all, there is no discrimination.
3. Based on Mr. KK's blog posts I can see a reason for challenging the uniqueness of the answer but not the scoring process.
4. In my opinion credit based on the latest submission makes more sense. This is not a situation of multiple choice.
5. After all this is a recreational activity due to the volunteering spirit of the setter and the scorer. Requests for change are reasonable, demands are not.
Perhaps the form text that says "Submit another response" can be tweaked to say "Change your answer" which will eliminate any confusion clarifying the existing policy without adding any additional work for Vanchi/Ambika.
I personally solve the puzzle for the pleasure of hearing the "click" in my mind when I hit upon the correct answer and for any interaction that brings in with family/friends. Seeing the name is just cherry on top of the cake. Even if my name gets left out, it is still cake without cherry that I will happily partake. :-D
Anyway, the Blog requires a few simple and transparent rules of the game.
Till then, Bye.
If the names are not published, there will be no fun and kick in participation.
We are using Google's free service to collect the answers. So, asking for a change in the way the message is printed after we enter a response is not feasible.
I want to clarify the following points
1. The times you saw your name printed TWICE in the solver's list , it is not Vaanchi sir's fault. It is again "our" fault. Some of us type in Tamil only the answer and leave our name in English. I have helped handful of times to sort the list. The days you see more than 60+ solvers, unless anyone's name appears back-2-back , it is difficult to find the repetition. I tried creating a macro for sorting the correct answer, But in every attempt i had to restore to manual compilation because we didn't want to miss anyone's name.
2. This issue that you have seen is what we call a "corner case" in Hardware world. That is, Vanchi sir himself compiled the list as the answers were handful. Vanchi sir had made it clear many a times in the past that he allows multiple answers, but the last (latest) entry will be taken as the FINAL answer.
If not for Ambika Vaanchinathan, "Volunteering" for publishing the answers by sorting the answer spreadsheet - We will never be so enthusiastic about solving the puthir. Dong it once in a while is different, But doing it everyday means, she has to be in front of a laptop "everyday" between 8:30pm and 9:00pm IST. It might sound very easy , but one can never foresee the hurdles that come in as phone calls, Pandigai, Function, Travel, power-cuts, health, guests and what not.
So, to sum it up, We all totally understand your frustration sir. But that is the magic of these puzzles. We will keep meeting as names when solvers lists gets published!
Sincerely,
Raji
The problem isnt posting the list but the way the list is to be created. I think most of us here agree with the latest answer. We can create Google form to accept only one answer per person but that was deliberately not chosen by Vanchi just to allow people to change their mind later in case of arriving at a wrong answer first.
"Vanchi sir had made it clear many a times in the past that he allows multiple answers, but the last (latest) entry will be taken as the FINAL answer."
It was perhaps my mistake that I did not realise this rule. NOW, I take this as a Rule to be accepted by participants. Given this, if I feel that I had not given the Best answer as the last entry, I have a chance to repeat the Best answer so that it becomes the last entry before the lapse of time. Since I realised later that அசை was the Best answer of the three choices I made, I could have repeated that answer as the last entry. That would have allowed the system to keep the name in the list of solvers.
It will still be your Best Bet to choose what is the Best answer! It is all part of the Game!!
I accept the rule of FINALITY and I AM IN THE GAME.
Welcome back.
Glad you are back sir. Welcome!
Since I'm a staunch Free Open Source Software user, I know how much the FOSS community does so that we all can enjoy the products freely. I have benefited by that. So being a volunteer in posting solver's list is nothing compared to the happiness it gives to the "Udhirivedi" community. Most important is Vanchi giving this opportunity to all of us with his ever exciting Pudhirs. Finally as many solvers here have put it, its a recreational activity and everybody gets pleasure, lets all enjoy it everyday. As a Udhirivedi fan, I thank all the udhirivedi visitors!
