Its solution: TRIUMPH =  TRIU  + MPH

TRIU = anagram of (p)URIT(y)
MPH = miles per hour, a unit of speed

The error has been rectified now. I went out at 6pm writing the post at that time returned home only after 9.30 and learn of the error just now. Thanks for pointing it out.

Later I discovered that the word meant body. So I suppose our popular usage came from a description of a chaotic situation like mayhem, with bodies strewn about!
