In German language, the grammatical masculine article, equivalent to, " *the* " , in English,is *DER* .
So in the riddle,
"eliminating THE German " = removing "der".
Then comes,
"kill" = murder
Eliminating ''der " from "murder ",
mur remains.
Repeating "mur" you get *MURMUR* !
That's how one speaks softly and there you go for a kill of this riddle !!! ☺
