Solutions to Thirivedi 25 (English)

Thirivedi 25 was an English puzzle instead of the usual Tamil one and I may occasionally do this again in future.

The words given were:

Glue, Frown, Preen, Bellow, Magnet

Four of them show their true colours when the first letter is replaced suitably

Glue --> Blue,

Frown-->Brown,

Preen --> Green,

Bellow --> Yellow

So Magnet is the exception, you can jumble it slightly and put an 'a' at end and make it Magenta, but that is not the same.

இன்று காலை வெளியான வெடி திருமகளே பரம்பரையில் வாய்த்திருப்பதால் ஏற்பாடுகளில் ஒரு பரபரப்பு (5) இதற்கான விடை: களேபரம் இன்று காலை கேசவன் இவ்விடை பற்றியும் "களேபரம்" என்ற சொல்லின் பொருள் பற்றியும் (எனக்குத் தெரியாத) விவரங்களை அனுப்பியிருக்கிறார். அதை அப்படியே இங்கே வெளியிடுகிறேன்: I was also of the opinion that களேபரம் meant something like chaos till my wife learnt a song on Ganesha where the line சுத்த களேபரம் சோம கலாதரம் appeared and confused me. Later I discovered that the word meant body. So I suppose our popular usage came from a description of a chaotic situation like mayhem, with bodies strewn about!
