Any odd number remains odd when 2 is subtracted as elementary arithmetic lesson says. Not so in the puzzle world as evidenced from the number 11 (i.e. elEVEN) when the two letters "el" are taken away.
I made this puzzle two days ago and messaged it to a computer scientist friend, the answer came in less than 10 seconds! He also assured me that using subtraction in a different sense is fair in puzzles. Thanks, Madhavan!
