Solution: SUBALTERN = SUB + ALT + ERN
SUB = bus, overturned ALT = a key found in computer keyboards
ERN = sea eagle
Even though TERN is a bird and is part of the solution, this clue makes no references to that bird by intention. Unintentional refrences are always additional features and welcome decoys!
